Clifton. Clifton said Mr. McGowan, a native of Emanuel County, failed to attend a dinner engagement with some friends Tuesday night, and that they became concerned about him. A brother, George McGowan started searching for him and found his body in about three or four feet of water in the pond about 2:25 pm Wednesday. The drowning has been ruled accidental and no inquest is planned, Sheriff Clifton stated. Mr McGowan was born in Emanuel County and had lived in Candler County most of his life. For several years he had served a school bus driver. He was a farmer and attended the Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church. Survivors include his mother, Mrs Ethel Akins McGowan of Metter: Three daughters, Mrs Bobbie Carrol Stanley of Savannah, Mrs Linda Bryant of Augusta, and Mrs Dee Anna Tillman of Savannah; Three sons,Michael L McGowan of Savannah Dennis McGowan of Waynesboro and Lemuel McGowan of Uvalda A sister, Mrs Lucille Donaldson of Twin City; Four brothers, Wilmer McGowan of Vadlia, Delma McGowan of Stone Mountain, John Ed McGowan of Milledgeville and George McGowan of Metter, five grandchildren. Services were held at 3 pm Friday at Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Hooks Mortuary of Metter was in charge of arrangements.
