                        J. Murphy Townsend
 WADLEY, Ga.---- J. Murphey Townsend, 61, former policeman in Wadley, and 
employed at Meadadbraett at the time of his death, died in the Veterans 
Hospital in Dublin a few minutes after arrival here Tuesday morning.
 Mr. Townsend was taken ill and carried to the home of Mrs. Willa D. Evans on 
the previous Thursday. His death was attributed to a heart attack.
 Funeral services will be held at 10am Friday at the First Methodist Church in 
Swainsboro, the Rev. John Durden and Dr. W. A. Alsobrook officiating. 
Interment will be in the Swainsboro City Cemetery.
 Mr. Townsend was a native of Emanuel County and came to Wadley about ten 
years ago and was on the police force for several years.
 Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sarah Townsend of Wadley; two sons, Buford 
Townsend of Paris, Texas and J. D. Townsend of Oklahoma; one sister, Mrs. 
Mollie Langevin of Mountain View, Calif.; one half-brother, Joe Erler of 
Montgomery, Ala.

James was born 2 Jan 1896 to Unknown and Isabella Amanda "Belle" Townsend.
