(Jim) Carroll williamcarrollj@bellsouth.net April 29, 2012, 2:45 pm The Paris News 5-7-1992 Dick Townsend Dick Townsend, 70, Route 1 Blossom, died Wednesday, May 6, at St. Joseph's Hospital. Services will be held at 11am Friday, May 8, at Gene Roden's Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lorenzo Johns officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8pm Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Townsend was born Oct. 20, 1921 in Swainsboro, Ga., a son of James Murphy Townsend and Georgia Curl Townsend. He served in the Army and was at Pear Harbor during the Japanese attack on Dec. 7, 1941. He also served in the Mandates Island Campaign and the Central Pacific Campaign. He was a member of the Paris Rlks Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was retired from J. C. Penney and attended Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a member of the North Mesquite Baptist Church. He married Kathleen Ford on May 16, 1985 in Rockwall. Surviving are his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Lynn and Karen Townsend of Forney and James Kelly and Debbie Townsend of Garland; a stepson, Phillip Randall Cockburn of Blossom; a daughter-in-law, Priscilla Thompson of Paris, and two cousins, Roger and Margaret Martin of Swainsboro, and four grandchildren.
