Tyson died at 1:50am last Friday at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Pierce D. Leonard, after an illness of eight weeks. She was 71 years old and was born in Emanuel County on Sept. 16, 1872. She was the daughter of the late Rowan Durden and the late Lucy Ann Moore Durden, both natives of Emanuel County. Her husband was the late Colonel S. J. Tyson, former mayor and prominent lawyer, of Swainsboro. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Lester Coleman and Mrs. P. D. Leonard, Swainsboro; one son, Hoke Tyson of the Marine Corps; two brothers, Rowie Durden, Augusta and Sephus Durden of Covena; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held at 3pm Saturday from the Primitive Baptist Church, Swainsboro, with Elder J. Walter Hendricks, pastor officiating, assisted by the Rev. H. C. Griffin, pastor of the Swainsboro Methodist Church. Interment was in the City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Judge ____ Humphrey, Judge F. C. Williams, Henry Flanders, Mayor T. R. Spivey, Peyton L. Youmans, and Otis G. Price. Active pallbearers were Edwin Flanders, Darius Brown, Walter Lamb, Neil D. Moore, Walter Moore, and Alfred Lamb. Swainsboro Mortuary was in charge.
