Rufus Josh Underwood
Rufus Josh Underwood, died at his residence in Summertown last Sunday at 3:30 
pm, after an illness of about three months.
Mr. Underwood was born in Emanuel County on July 16th, 1876, and was the son 
of the late Josh Underwood of Washington County and Eliza Spence Underwood of 
Emanuel County.
He is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss Alice Bertha Sherrod; three 
sons, Green Y. Underwood, of San Francisco, Calif, W.W. Underwood of 
Summertown; two daughters Mrs. Eliza Greenway, and Miss Gladys Underwood of 
Summertown; one brother E.W. Underwood of Summertown.
Mr. Underwood was a member of the Summertown Methodist Church, where funeral 
services were held last Tuesday at 3:30 pm with Rev. john E. Wilson pastor, 
officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
