Brown April 29 1891 allowed to W. C. Brown for Disability from Disease in the amount of $50.00 in Banks County, Georgia. For Use of Applicants Who Have Not Heretofore Drawn. State of Georgia, Banks County. Personally appears W. C. Brown of Banks County, State of Georgia, who, being duly sworn, says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said State, and has been continuously since the 1st day of October 1843; that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States during the war between the States, and served as Private in Company E of 11th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers Longstreet’s Brigade (he thinks); that whilst engaged in such military service, in the State of Virginia, on the [blank] day of [blank] 1862, he was disabled as follows: Contracted fever at Winchester Va. Was confined a long while with fever and before recovery from it was attacked with rheumatism in pretty much all parts of the body. The fever and rheumatism worked along together for a long time. Had also bloody piles. Resulted in heart disease, Dyspepsia. Very troublesome and painful affliction of all the bones and muscles of the body. His kidneys and bladder also became afflicted. The diseases together came very near resulting in death. Was sent home eventually and confined to the bed and to the room for a long time, several years in fact elapsed before he was able to be up and about, but has never been able to work except a little at a time since the war. The pains and other diseases all grew worse and worse, until now he has been confined to bed principally all the time for more than a year, and is in a helpless condition and is dependent upon his wife and friends almost entirely. Deponent desired to participate in the benefits of the Act, approves October 24th, 1887, and the Acts amendatory thereof, and makes application for the allowance to which he is entitled for the year thereunder, ending October 26, 1891. Signed: W. C. Brown Sworn to and subscribed before me, this 28th day of March 1891. T. F. Hill, Ordinary. Affidavit For Witnesses. State of Georgia, Banks County. Personally appears before me, the undersigned Ordinary in and for said County, Miss Myra Brown, W. T. Bell and J. E. Strange each of whom, being duly sworn according to law, severally say, under oath, that they are personally well acquainted with W. C. Brown whose application is herewith presented for a pension, and that they served with him in the army, and from our personal knowledge he was injured by the service as follows: (Give full statement, and tell us in your own language how badly applicant is disabled from work. If he does any labor, or can do any, state what.) Myra E. Brown swears he is not able to do any kind of work whatever and has to be cared for as a child. He is entirely helpless. He has been diseased ever since he came home from the army. Came home in this condition and has gradually grown worse. He is my brother, and I nursed and cared for him and know positively that he was confined to his room and to the bed most of the time for more than 3 years after he came from after the surrender in 1865. He had fever in the army and it resulted in rheumatism, bloody flux, piles and other diseases from which he has never recovered. W. T. Bell and J. E. Strange have lived near neighbors to applicant for 18 or 20 years. Say that he has been a diseased man ever since they knew him. He has been so diseased that he has not been able to do any kind of labor. We have always heard him say that the diseases he now suffers from were contracted while in the army and they fully corroborate his statements of Miss Myrna Brown, his sister, so far back as they have been acquainted with him. Applicant has been permanently disabled, and has been so to our certain knowledge ever since 18_. We have no interest in the recovery of a pension by him. Signed: Mira E. Brown, J. E. Strange, W. T. Bell. Sworn to and subscribed before me, this 28th day of March 1891. T. F. Hill, Ordinary. Power of Attorney State of Georgia, Banks County. Know all Men by these Presents, That I, W. C.
