The picture was in A book, "Girl Captives of the Cheyenne". John and Lydia left Fannin County in 1870 for Colorado. The trip took 4 years. When they were one day from Colorado they were attacked by the Cheyenne Indians. John and his Son Stephen, his wife Lydia and daughters Rebecca, Joanna were massacred in Kansas near Monument Station. The other four daughters were captured by the Indians and remained with them for several months. They were released to the US Cavalry. A book was written about this incident by one of the captured daughters Catherine German Brooks. Lydia Cox was sister to my gggrandmother, Elizabeth Cox who married George Watkins.
