A Resolution In Memory of Miss Helen MacLean Marshall Departed member, kind friend, fellow lover of birds and of all good things in nature, from whose beautiful mind and spirit so freely and generously came to us such heartening touches of encouragement and inspiration. She was the mother of our organizations, always a gracious hostess, and our best advisor and mentor. That the time for her Home-going should come in April, the month of the opening of doors, the time of re-birth of beauty in nature, seems to us to be a fitting time, and we are profoundly moved. We, the members of the Floyd County Audubon Society, mourn her passing but shall always keep her memory in our hearts. We now make this resolution expressing gratitude to her and deepest sympathy to her family. ============================= Open Door Home, Rome, Georgia A Memorial to Helen MacLean Marshall These documents are the property of The Open Door Home Rome, Georgia The original documents are located at the Open Door Home. A Memorial to Helen MacLean Marshall She hated to see a thing done in halves; If it be right, do it boldly; If it be wrong, leave it undone. In the passing of Miss Helen MacLean Marshall on April 16, 1964, the children of The Open Door Home of Rome, Georgia lost a faithful and beloved friend. Helen MacLean Marshall was born in Savannah, Georgia on August 27, 1872, the daughter of the late Charles M. and Anna Cooper Marshall. She loved her home, her church, her community, and all that nature placed around her. She was the owner of the only virgin forest in Georgia and had been recognized by the federal government for its preservation. She was a charter member of the Seven Hills Garden Club, the oldest in Rome. A member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, she was active in its work for many years. She was a member of the Savannah Chapter of the Colonial Dames. The Open Door Home is an outgrowth of the vision of a group of Romans who loved children. Helen MacLean was one of them. She was a charter member and a past president of The Board of Trustees of The Open Door Home of Rome, Georgia. At the time of her death, she was an honorary member of The Board whose advice and counsel was sought and respected. Her wit and sparkling personality did much to interest others in the task to be done. She is survived by one nephew, MacLean Marshall of Rome, Georgia. With the death of Helen MacLean Marshall, The Board of Trustees, The Staff, and The Children of The Open Door Home of Rome, Georgia have lost a valued friend; therefore BE IT RESOLVED, that The Board of Trustees of The Open Door Home of Rome, Georgia expresses its sorrow by the adoption of this Memorial in recognition of the faithful service of Helen MacLean Marshall; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Memorial be spread upon the minutes of The Board of Trustees of The Open Door Home of Rome, Georgia, and that a copy be furnished to the surviving nephew. Done in regular session of The Board of Trustees of The Open Door Home of Rome, Georgia This 7th day of May, 1964 (Signed) Mrs. J. Bradley Haynes, President Attest: Mrs. Curtis High, Secretary
