Haley To His Parents, Mr. & Mrs. Ambrose M. Haley, And Sister, Margaret C. Haley "The Cleburne News" Heflin, Cleburne Co., Alabama NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, AUGUST 22, 1935 LETTER WRITTEN 71 YEARS AGO The letter below was sent in to The News by Amos J. Inman of Hightower: Marietta, Ga. July 1, 1864 Battlefield Co. B., Reg't 36 Ga To A. M. Haley from A. N. Haley Dear father, mother, brother and sister, I will drop you a few lines to let you know that I am well at this time. I hope that when this comes to hand, will find you all doing well. I received your letter today dated June 21. I was glad to hear from you all. I am glad to inform you that I am yet alive and sound. We are fighting every day and I expect we will have a big fight on the 4th day of July. We have killed a heap of Yankees but they have killed a heap of us too. Pop, you do the best you can until I come. Be as it is, I put my faith in God for He is my Maker and Savior. I have a heap of trouble but I bare it the best I can. I want you to write to me as soon as you get this letter and then I will write to you again. I have not drawn any money since I have been in service and I don't know when I will draw. William stopped at home with his family when we fell back. Pop, write soon, give me all the news in old Randolph county. To his sister, M.C. Haley from A. N. Haley, Dear sister, I will drop you a few lines to let you know I am still alive. I was glad to hear that you was well. I have got the army paten boots that you sent to me. Sis, I want you to tell the girls not to marry until I come home and then I can see them marry, for I don't except to marry if I live to get home myself. Tell Babe Coller that I am glad she was wrotte to me as I am a poor Rebel Soldier and a long ways from home. I hope to God I live to see you all again. Write soon. (Transcribed by Candace [Teal] Gravelle - http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00023.html#0005680 - January 25, 2007) Additional Comments: This letter is written by Alison N. Haley to his father, Ambrose M. Haley & step-mother, Elizabeth (Hendon) Haley. M. C. Haley is his sister, Margaret C. Haley. She was the 2nd wife of Hamilton "Harry" Inman. Harry's 1st wife was Lucinda Finney, daughter of Margaret & Alison's older sister, Martha Haley. Martha Haley married Thomas Finney in DeKalb Co., Ga in 1852. Census records let me to believe that Martha & Thomas Finney passed away before 1860. Their children, Henry, Lucinda, Benjamin & Sarah Cathrine, are found living with their grandparents, aunts/uncles, etc. for 1860 and later. Lucinda (Finney) Inman passed away due to childbirth or from complications thereafter, as Margaret married Hamilton "Harry" Inman when the twins born to he and Lucinda were 3 weeks old. * GEORGIA CIVIL WAR SOLDIER INDEX Compiled and formatted by Keith Giddeon Info and F.A.Q. at http://www.rootsweb.com/~gagenweb/military/gsi/index.html ==================================================================== This file was contributed by: Keith Giddeon - rkg@giddeon.com ==================================================================== GSI # LAST NAME FIRST NAME COMPANY UNIT SERVED ENROLL RANK 77562 Haley A.
