AGED PASTOR OF THE COUNTY DIES
 
Rev. J. W. Abrams Passes Away at His Home in Boozville Wednesday.

Lindale, March 23. -The Rev. J. W. Abrams, one of Floyd County's oldest
citizens, died at his home in Boozeville Wednesday morning at 3 o'clock  after a
long illness. He was 80 years of age. He is survived by his wife, 
Mrs. Mary Abrams, who is 81 years of age, and two daughters, Mrs. Mary F.
Fields, of Boozeville, and Mrs. Sallie E. Hanson, of Atlanta, and four sons, R.
F. a nd D. E. Abrams of Boozville;  B. L. Abrams of Lavender and J. M. Abrams of
Lathonia.
The remains will be interrred at Wax in the cemetery adjoining the Primitive
Baptist church, of which he was a member, Thursday afternoon at 2:30  o'clock.
The funeral service will be held in the Primitive Baptist Church at Wax, led by
the pastor of the church, the Rev. J. R. Johnson. The following are requested
toact as pallbearers: L. M. Atkins, J. H. Teat, B. J. Tucker, J. G. Thomason, J.
E. J. Wilkins and W. A. Chafin. They will leave the residence in Boozville  for
Wax about 9 o'clock Thursday morning. Rev. Mr. Abrams served as presiding elder
of the Primitive Baptist Church many years. He has been a resident of Floyd
County for fifty years or more, living in Cave Spring when it
was only a hamlet, before the war. He was born in Lincoln County, North
Carolina, April 2, 1830, moving to this country when he was about 15 years old.
He was married to Mrs. Mary Abernathy at Cartersville over sixty-one years ago.
He served four years in the civil war, enlisting in the First Georgia regiment
March 23, 1862, just forty-eight years ago exactly to date. He served in the
army under General Longstreet, Colonel Morrison and Capt. Haney, was a member of
Company C. He served as blacksmith for his regiment for three years. He was well
known throughout this community and his death will be learned with regreat by
his many friends and acquaintances.
