Byars, 69, of 77 Atkins Drive S.E. died Tuesday at a Rome hospital after a short illness. Mrs. Byars was born in Cherokee County, Ala. June 9, 1918, son of the late John Henry Byars and Lou Ann Hardin Byars. He was a long-time resident of Floyd County. He was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church, the Joy Club; Oostanaula Lodge No. 113 F&AM., the low 12 Club, the Rome No. 26 Royal Arch, the Rome Council No. 15, the Rome Commandery No. 8, the Yaarab Temple, the Rome Shrine Club, Woodmen of the World and the American Legion Post No. 5 Shanklin Attaway. Mr. Byars was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army. He was a manger of Tenneco Oil. Survivors include his wife, Frances Boggs Byars, to whom he was married Jan. 19, 1934; a son, James William Byars, Rome, a daughter, Mrs. Nancy Locklear, Rome; two brothers, Edgar Byars, Summerville, and Harper Byars, Sugar Valley; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Atkins and Mrs. Pearl Cobb, both of Rome, two grandchildren Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Fincher officiating. Interment will be at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
