George W. Boggs, Retired Forest Ranger, Succumbs

George Washington Boggs, 73, retired farmer and
former Chief Ranger for the Floyd County Unit of
Georgia Forestry Commission, died at his residence
Sunday morning following an extended illness.

Mr. Boggs was born in Floyd County, Sept. 16, 1888,
son of the late Lindsey J. and Martha Tolbert Boggs,
and had spent his entire life here. He had been with
the Georgia Forestry Commission for 18 years, prior
to his retirement seven years ago,  and had been a
member of the Armuchee Baptist Church since 1936.

Mr. Boggs is survived by his widow, the former Miss
Bessie Green, to whom he was married Oct. 18, 1908;
two sons, Grady and George Boggs, Jr., both of Rome;
five daughters; Mrs. Ernest Campbell and Mrs. T.J.
Cordle, both of Rome, Mrs. A. M. Smith of East
Point, Miss Avalene Boggs of Atlanta, Mrs. N.O. King
of Dalton, one sister, Mrs. Aaron Johnson of Rome;
one brother, Horace Boggs of Rome; 13 grandchildren;
one grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were to be held at 3 p.m. today in
the Armuchee Baptist Church with the pastor, the
Rev. Paul Camp, and the Rev. S.H. Pendley
officiating. Interment will follow in Sand Springs
Cemetery.

The following will serve as active pallbearers: Edd
Demsey, Carl Burnes, Jodie Hawkins, Ruben
Buffington, J. C. Ash and Julius Cordle. The Georgia
Forestry Commission personnel will serve as honory
escort. Jennings Funeral Home is in charge of the
funeral arrangements(Note:died Nov. 5)
