Jack Smith, 79, of Route 5, died Wednesday at a Rome hospital.  Mr. Smith was 
born in Chattooga County, March 10, 1916, son of the late William Thomas Smith 
and Maudie Roberts Smith.  He was preceded in death by his wife Grace Booker 
Smith.  Survivors include: two daughters, Peggy Bennett, Rome and Tracy Smith, 
Summerville; a sister, Bernice Ragan, Summerville; four grandchildren; nieces 
and nephews.  Graveside services will be at 11 A.M. Friday at Greenhills Memory 
Gardens with the Rev. Gleason Maxwell and the Rev. Don Howe officiating. (The
