He was born in the Sand Springs community of Floyd County on March 10, 1901, son of the late Jennie Swafford Green and Melvin C. Green. He resided in Floyd until 1946 when he moved to Atlanta and was employed by the Peasley Caubert Furniture Co. prior to retirement. He was a member of Venetian Hills Baptist Church, Decatur, Circle Four Club and was a graduate of Powder Springs A. & M. Prior to moving to Atlanta he was employed by the Gibson-DeJournette Co. for several years. He was a Mason. Survivors include his widow, the former Amoree Burnes, who he married Oct. 23, 1927; a sister, Mrs. G.W. (Bessie) Boggs, Rome, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Butler, Atlanta, and Dr. Ira Warren officiating. Burial will be in East View cemetery. The body will lie in state at Jennings Funeral Home and the family will receive friends there from 3 until 5 p.m. today. Pallbearers will include H.E. Fair, E.C. Lanford, Robert H. Caskey, C.R. Foster, J.D. Nix and Leonard Priest. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Dempsey, Freeman James and D.A. Daniel. (Note: died April 3, 1976)
