Mr. King was born in Floyd County Aug. 23, 1896, son of the late Thomas Walter King and Mary Padgett King, and had spent his entire life here. He had operated a grocery store on the Old Dalton Road for the past 13 years and prior to then was a sawmill contractor. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of Mountain Springs Methodist Church and a former member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Brotherhood. Survivors include the widow, the former Cora Brice, to whom he was married July 13, 1919; three sons, Herbert H., Atlanta, Bobby M., Cedartown, and Joe Dan King Rome Rte. 7; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Perry and Mrs. Margaret Cagle, both of Rome and Mrs. Mary Ann Winslett, Atlanta; three brothers, Horace and Henry King, Rome, and Dovie King, Florida, 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Arnold Mount, the Rev. B. J. Lamb, and the Rev. J. O. Crabb of Powder Springs officiating. Interment will be in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The body was to be carried to the residence at 4 p.m. today to remain until the funeral hour. Pallbearers are Carl Terrell, J.T. (Shorty) Vanderford,Pete Kasonovitch, Jack Pilgrim, Gilbert Davis, and Berry Ward. JenningsFuneral Home has charge of the arrangements. (Note died Dec. 17)
