Lewis, aged 46 years, a wreck foreman for the Southern railway and a resident of East Rome, was killed shortly after noon yesterday when a freight car, wrecked the night before in West Rome, was being raised to be replaced on the trucks. One end of the car was resting on the trucks and the other was being raised with a cable when the car suddenly turned and fell, striking Mr. Lewis on the breast and head and producing injuries from which he died just as he was being taken from a taxicab at the Emergency hospital. The taxi had been rushed to the hospital with the injured man, immediately after the accident. Surviving the decedent are his wife, his sons, Shepard and Marion, and his daughter, Miss Stella Mae, all residents of Rome. Funeral arrangements have not been completed but will be announced tomorrow. Mr. Lewis had been a resident of this city twenty-five years and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was a man of excellent character, a loving husband and a kindly father whose loss is deeply regretted.
