Rome – At the age of 99 years William Milam, Floyd County’s oldest citizen, 
died at the home of his grandson at Mount Hope, north of Rome.  Mr. Milam was 
born in North Carolina in 1811, came to Georgia when a boy, fought with 
Indians in the Cherokee uprisings, had voted for Andrew Jackson for president 
when he ran for his second term and for every Democratic nominee since that 
time.
