The worthy man for many years held the office of justice of peace in his district. He died at the advanced age of eighty-two and leaves 8 children, four sons and four daughters to mourn their loss. Mr. Lumpkin was one of the early settlers of Floyd County, settling here 49 years ago. The funeral notice appears in another column. (Nothing else was found in this or later editions. Thomas Lumpkin appeared on the 1880 census in Chulio District, Floyd County, as being 73 and born in Maryland, father in Maryland and mother in North Carolina. His wife, Martha A., was 57, born GA, father born GA, mother South Carolina. Living with them were sons, Charles L. 22, and Hiram B. 16.)
