Mr. Willis was born in Floyd County on Oct. 21, 1896, son of the late William Newton and Martha Ann Adams Willis. He had spent his entire life here and prior to his retirement in 1961, had worked for the Georgia Power Company for 36 years. He was a veteran of World War I, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion and IBEW Local 847. He attended the Methodist church. A son, J.C. Willis, Jr. died in July, 1936. Surviving are his widow, the former Ella Mae Lindsey, to whom he was married on June 23, 1923; two daughters, Mrs. Clyde Barmlett, Rome, Rte. 10, Mrs. Otis Dunlap, Albany; one son, Duran T. (Spider) Willis, Rome; seven grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in East View Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Reynolds officiating. The body will lie in state at Talley Brothers Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. today. At other hours they will be at the home of the son, 113 Harrison Road. Active pallbearers will be David and Spencer Willis, Herschel and Herbert Bailey. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Georgia Power Company.
