Stephens wend@bellsouth.net July 11, 2004, 4:40 pm Rome News Tribune, Monday, December 21, 1959 Arthur Wilburn Turner, age 72, of 1508 Gordon Avenue, died in an out of town hospital at 6:15 p.m. Saturday following a two years illness, his condition becoming serious two weeks ago. Mr. Turner was born in Bartow County, Sept. 8, 2887, son of the late James Thomas Turner and Mary Agnes Edwards Turner, but had spent the greater part of his life in Rome and Floyd County. For a number of years, prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Smith-Evans Lumber Co. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Charlie Johnston of Rome and a brother, Joe Turner of Macon. Surviving are his widow the former Lizzie Finley; one sister, Mrs. J. H. Duggan of Rome and one brother, Howard Turner of Albertville, Ala. And several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with the Rev. W. F. Conn officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Oakland Cemetery. The body will arrive in Rome Tuesday morning and will be removed to Jennings Funeral Home to lie in state until time for services. The family will receive friends at Jennings Funeral Home from 7 until 9 p.m. o’clock Tuesday night. Six nephews will serve as pallbearers; L. H., J. L., and Lynn Duggan, Robert Moore Jr.. O. D. Manning Jr. and Bobby Jo Manning. Jennings Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
