Deason, 73, life-long resident of Floyd County and long time employee of the Rome Mfg. Co., died at her home on the Piney Road, Armuchee, Rte. 1 at 10:15 p.m. Monday following an extended illness. Mrs. Deason was born in the Texas Valley community, May 23, 1886, daughter of the late Gideon Bray and Selana Brannon Bray, a pioneer Floyd County family and had spent her entire life here. For the past 19 years she had resided with her daughter, Mrs. Otho Hawkins on the Piney road. She was a member of Floyd Springs Baptist Church and prior to her illness was active in the church. Mrs. Deason had been an employee of Rome Mfg. Co. for over 50 years, having retired in October of 1957. She was married to George H. Deason, who preceded her in death July 24, 1940. She was also preceded in death by a step-daughter, Mrs. Fannie Holsomback, June 10, 1951. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Otho Hawkins, Armuchee, Rte. 1; one step- daughter, Mrs. Norman Patterson of Smyrna, Tenn.; four step-sons, Frank Deason, Armuchee, Rte. 1; Otis Deason of Clemson, S.C., Nolas of Lincoln Park, Mich., and Roy Deason of Detroit, Mich.; three sisters, Mrs. Jennie Parker, Dalton, Mrs. J. L. Hawkins, Armuchee, Rte, 1 and Mrs. Fonnie Puryearof LaFayette, Rte, 2; two brothers, Luther Bray of Armuchee, Rte. 1 and Arthur Bray of Rome, Rte.6; three grandsons, Randolph, Hugal and Edward Hawkins all of Armuchee, Rte. 1, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Floyd Springs Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. A.C. Davis, the Rev. W. F. Conn and the Rev. E. S. Morris, pastor of New Armuchee Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Everett Springs Cemetery. The body will lie in state at Jennings Funeral Home until 6 p.m. today when it will be then be removed to the residence on the Piney Road to await the funeral hour. Pallbearers will include, B.G. and Henderson Moore, George, Albert and Howard Duke and John Lumpkin. Jennings Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
