Smith, prominent farmer, died late Friday afternoon at his residence near Pope’s Chapel, following a stroke of apoplexy. Mr. Smith was 71 years of age and had lived in Floyd county all of his life. He was a devoted member of the Methodist church and was always active in religion and civic affairs of the community. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Miss Ruby Smith of Floyd county: one half-sister, Mrs. Weisner, of Summerville. He was an uncle of Mrs. W. S. Simmons of Rome and a great uncle of Dr. Robert Simmons, Mrs. Pierce McGhee, Mrs. Ralph McGhee, and Mrs. Alleu Battle, of Rome; Mrs. Marvin Green, of Atlanta and Mrs. W. P. Jones of Macon. Funeral services will be held this morning at 11 o’clock at Pope’s Chapel. The Rev. A. B. Elizer pastor of North Rome Methodist church, will conduct the services. Interment will be in adjoining cemetery. Daniel Company, morticians have charge of arrangements.
