He was born in Bartow County, Aug. 17, 1903, son of the late Oscar A. and Della Cline Smith. He had been a resident of Floyd County since 1932, moving from Bartow County. He was a member of Wax Missionary Baptist Church. He was a retired painter and for 28 years had been associated with West Point Manufacturing Company. On Nov. 5, 1922, he was married to the former Charlotte Williams who survives. Survivors, other than the widow, are one daughter, Mrs. William Baker, Aragon, four sons, Carl Smith, Hialeah, Fla., W. L. Smith, Rome, Ralph Smith, Tucker, and Wayne Smith, Signal Mountain, Tenn., four sisters, Mrs. Roe Williams, Rockmart, Mrs. Walton Carpenter, Aragon, Mrs. Grady Holcomb, Smyrna and Mrs. Paul Walters, Birmingham, Ala., one brother, R.A. Smith, Lindale, 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Wax Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. O.L. Edwards and Donald Richards officiating. Interment will be in Wax Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and at other hours will be at the residence. The body will lie in state in the church from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Friday.
