Patton, commanding the first battalion, Fifth Infantry, died in Rome the past week as the result of a second operation performed for appendicitis. Major Patton was one of the best known young businessmen in Rome. His death has cast a gloom over the entire city. He was the ranking major in the state militia and had been identified with the service for many years. He was also a member of the military advisory board and commanded a battalion in the Fifth Infantry.
