Jack Smith, age 79, a resident of Rt. 5, Summerville, GA. Passed away Wednesday 
morning in a Rome hospital.  Mr. Smith was born on March 10, 1916 in Chattooga 
County, Georgia, was a son of the late William Thomas and the late Maudie 
Roberts Smith.  He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Grace Booker 
Smith and 3 brothers, the late Russell Smith, the late Willie Smith and the 
late Jesse Smith.  Surviving are 2 daughters: Peggy Bennett of Rome and Tracy 
Smith of Summerville; granddaughter, Lynn Smith of Jonesboro, GA. 3 grandsons: 
Phillip Wofford of Calhoun, Byron Wofford and Greg Wofford both of Summerville. 
One sister: Bernice Ragan of Summerville, several nieces and nephews also 
survive.  Funeral services will be held at 11AM Friday from the graveside at 
Greenhills Memory Garden.  Active pallbearers will be Bryon Wofford, Phillip 
Wofford, Greg Wofford, Bob Bennett, Brent Hawkins and Ben Smith.  They are 
asked to assemble at the Funeral home at 10:30 AM Friday.  Mr. Smith will be in 
state at J.D. Hill Funeral Home, Summerville, GA. After 5 PM this evening, 
where the family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM.  At other hours, the 
family will be at the residence of a grandson Byron Wofford, Rte 5 Summerville, 
GA.  J.D. Hill Funeral Home Summerville, GA. Is in charge of the arrangements 
for Mr. Jack Smith who passed away Wednesday morning.  (Rome News Tribune,
