Roscoe Smith, of 404 Kings Street, Kings Mountain, N.C., a former Roman, died Friday afternoon in Kings Mountain. Mrs. Smith had been in declining health for 14 months, her condition having been critical for a week. Mrs. Smith was born in Floyd County Dec. 9, 1889, daughter of the late H. B. and Docie Smith Lumpkin. She was the former Miss Ida Lumpkin. She was educated in the public schools in Rome, where she spent most of her life. She had lived in Kings Moutain since the death of her husband, Francis Roscoe Smith, April 26, 1968. She was a member of South Broad Baptist Church and a former teacher in the Sunday School department. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She and Mr. Smith were married Sept. 1, 1907. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. J. Avery Trammell of Kings Mountain, N.C., one sister, Mrs. W. C. Coalson of Rome; three half sisters, Mrs. Claude Partain of Marietta, Mrs. Grady Ellison of Atlanta and Mrs. Rob Bailey of Rockmart; one brother, Smith Lumpkin of Rome; four half brothers, Frank Lumpkin of Rockmart, Tom Lumpkin of Douglasville, Charner Lumpkin of Aragon, and Harry Lumpkin of Cedartown; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted today at 3 p.m. at South Broad Baptist Church. The Rev. Bernard Deakins will officiate. Interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home. Stevens-Davenport Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. (Note: Died August 29, 1969)
