Monk Trapp, Popular Citizen of Floyd County Dead At Age of 80 Years

Was War Veteran of Civil War and Remembered Name of Every Member of Company 
With Which He Served

A.D. Trapp, popularly known as "Monk" Trapp, died Sunday morning after a long 
illness, at the home of his niece, Mrs. L. Duke, on Avenue A. He was a resident 
of the Mt. Alto district, about eight miles from Rome, and was visiting here 
when the illness which resulted in his death overtook him. Four sons and a 
daughter survive him.

Mr. Trapp was 80 years of age and was among the best known citizens of Floyd 
county. He was a Confederate veteran and could recall the names of every member 
of the company with which he served. He had lived in this county since boyhood 
and was at one time a justice of the peace in his district, where he was very 
popular. His distinguishing trait was his determination. Once,when seriously 
ill, his physician told him that his chances of recovery were one in a 
thousand. Mr. Trapp said he would take that one--he did, and lived.

Funeral services were held at Mountain Springs church yesterday and were 
conducted by Rev. W.C. Cordle. Interment was in the cemetery there. Honorary  
pallbeares were ex-Confederate veterans. They were Hon. George D. Anderson, 
Henry White, George Davis, J.L.Duke, Zach McCain and H.C.Jennings.
