Wilkins, 79, Dies At Residence; Funeral Tomorrow Oscar Lacurgus Wilkins, 79, died at 7 p.m. Monday at his residence on the Old Dalton Road following an illness of three months. Mr. Wilkins was born in Cherokee County, Ala., June 10, 1876, son of the late Virgil and Mary Abbot Wilkins. For a number of years he was affiliated with Anchor Rome Mills as a carpenter, retiring in 1943. He was a member of th South Broad Baptist Church. Mr. Wilkins was the widower of the former Miss Emma Watson, who died Feb. 4, 1941. They were married May 10, 1896. Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Floyd H. Green, Mrs. B.C. Morgan and Mrs. L.E. Salmon, all of Rome, Mrs. H.M. Lloyd of Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. Henry D. McGinnis of Charleston, S.C., and Mrs. F.A. Stanford of Fairborn: three sisters, Mrs. John Winkle, of Seagarville, Tex., Mrs. Wiley Cash and Mrs. John Rush, both of Bremen. Thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the South Broad Baptist Church with the Rev. Warren Nutt, pastor, and Rev. S.H. Pendley officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of East View Cemetery. Pallbearers will include six grandsons, Doyal Lumpkin, L.E. Salmon, Wade Salmon, Alton Stanford, W.O. Salmon and Homer M. Lloyd, Jr. The body will be at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Floyd H. Green, on the Old Dalton Road. =============== From Rome News Tribune Mrs. Wilkins, 62, Dies On Sunday Mrs Emma Watson Wilkins, well-known 62-year-old Roman, died at her residence, 614 South Broad Street, last night at 10:40 o'clock, following an illness of three years. Born and reared in Floyd County, Mrs. Wilkins was the daughter of the late J.E. and Elizabeth Wallace Watson, pioneer Floyd Countians. She had lived in Rome for the past 25 years and had been a devoted Christian and member of the Methodist Church for many years. Surviving are the husband, O.L. Wilkins; six daughters, Mrs. L.E. Salmon, of Rome; Mrs. H.M. Lloyd, of Birmingham; Mrs. H.D. McGinnis, of Atlanta; Mrs. F.A. Stanford, of Fairburn, Ga.; Miss Elizabeth Wilkins and Mrs. Barry Locklear, both of Rome; two brothers, J.T. and W.T. Watson, of Rome; a sister, Mrs. J.B. Sims, of Rome, and 13 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the South Broad Methodist Church by the Rev. S.H. Pendley, assisted by the Rev. J.R. Allen. Interment will be in East View Cemetery. The following nephews will serve as pallbearers: Leamon Sims, J.M. Ploof, Bradford Watson, Lamar Green, Chester Cash and Clifford Scott.
