Capitoline Wolf

“A gift from ancient Rome to new Rome”

"This statue of the Capitoline wolf, as a forecast of prosperity and glory, 
has been sent from Ancient Rome, to New Rome during the consulship of Benito 
Mussolini in the year 1929." 

The inscription is in Italian with the English translation on a seperate 
placque.

Additional Comments:
The Capitoline Wolf is in front of the City Hall and Auditorium. It has been 
the source of some controversy - when Italy declared war on the Allies in 1940 
the statue was removed and locked away. It was put back in front of the City 
Hall in 1952.
