Additional Comments: I believe the name is misspelled on this marker. A distant cousin of my husband George W. Rozell was a bugler for Company B with the 'Wood County Rebels' of the 10th Texas Calvary. He is listed on the rosters along with his brothers, James Rozell, Jr. (2nd Lieutenant, Co. B); John W. Rozell (Privae, Co. B); and Peter Rozell (Private, Co. B). Only three of the brothers returned home after the war. George W. Rozell was injured and died of his injuries in Rome, Georgia. His last muster roll lists him as having died in Rome, Georgia on May 19, 1863. There are also no records of a George Rose in the Texas armies who were involved in battles around Rome, Georgia. I believe this marks the grave of George W. Rozell of the 10th Texas Calvery. George W. Rozell, b. 1834, Jackson County, Alabama; d. May 19, 1863. Enlisted as a Private, Buglar, in John, W. Wilson's company in Sibley's Brigade of the Texas Militia, August 5, 1861. He was the son of Peter Rozell (b: 6/3/1803, Davidson County, Tennessee - d: 4/20/1895, Lamar County, Texas) and Frances Miller (b: 1804, Franklin County, Tennessee - d: 3/25/1885).
