Dr. S. S. Bailey, of Cumming, died suddenly at his home in that place, on Sunday 
evening last, of heart disease, aged 74 years. He was the father of the two ladies 
murdered by Eugene Beck, in Rabun county, some three or four years ago, about 
which there was so much excitement at the time; also of Mrs. A. J. Julian, of 
Forsyth county, whose remarkably well written letter to Beck, in relation to the 
killing, attracted so much attention, and was also an uncle of Dr. J. W. and Mr. 
A. P. Bailey, of this city. Mr. Baily (sic) was a very prominent man in his 
county, having been regarded as a leader in church and political affairs for many 
years. In life he was greatly respected and beloved, and his death is sincerely 
mourned by all who were privileged to know him.—Gainesville Eagle
