H. Thompson, formerly of Dawson county, Ga., was murdered at Axle, Tex., a small place near Waco, February 14th. Dr. Thompson was a young man about 28 years of age, and graduated at the Atlanta medical college about four years ago. He was a son of Jack Thompson, who killed his twin brother in the corn field in Dawson county about sixteen years ago. A Waco, Texas correspondent says T. H. Reno, who saw the murder committed, testified that Dr. Thompson was shot and killed by Luther Pippin. There was a race to be run where the killing occurred, and, while drinking, Thompson pulled out his pistol and struck the counter with it. The cartridge exploded, and the ball went through the plank and hit Pete Sneed. Several grabbed for the pistol, and in the scuffle Luther Pippin came running up and put his pistol to Doc Thompson’s left side and shot him. Buck Pippin got Thompson’s pistol out of Thompson’s hand and struck him a blow over the head with it. Thompson was standing when struck and then fell over and died at once. It is certain that condign punishment will be their fate when once the law gets them within its grasp. Thompson was a rollicking follow (sic), generous and erratic.
