This Indenture made this 27th May one thousand eight
hundred and twenty between Stephen Chatham, of the
one part and Thomas Payne Senior of the  other part
both of the State and county aforesaid  Witnesseth
that the said Stephen Chatham for and in
consideration of one hundred Dollars lawful money of
said State to him in hand paid by the said Thomas
Payne at or before the sealing and delivering of
these presents the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged hath granted, bargained, sold,
released, and confirmed by these  these presents
doth grant bargain sell release and confirm unto the
sd Thomas Payne Senior his heirs or assigns all that
tract or parcel of Land lying and being in the State
and County aforesaid it being part of a tract of 500
acres of Land granted to Joseph Ryan Beginning at
the original line of the said survey in the swamp
Thence to said Chathams White oak corner thence
running to a notable red oak stand at the corner of
Asa Ayres fence thence the course of sd Ayres fence
to sd Chathams road thence along said road to a
cross road oak corner  thence a strait line to a
white oak corner on William Paynes line thence along
William Paynes line Eastwardly to a Hickory Corner
thence N. 5 W. 50 to a post oak corner thence along
the original line to where it intersects with Graggs
line thence westwardly along Graggs line to a pine
corner  Thence N. along Graggs line to where the
original crossed it  Thence along the original line
to a poplar corner thence to the beginning with all
and singular the rights members appertainances
thereof whatsoever to the sd tract piece or parcel
of Land being belonging or in any wise appertaining
to the said tract piece or parcel of Land to have &
to hold the said land & premises and appertainences
thereunto belonging as aforesaid and every part
thereof to the said Thomas Payne Senior his heirs &
assigns forever to the use benefit & behoof of tract
piece of parcel of land and the said Stephen Chatham
for himself his heirs & assigns and all claims of
Joseph Ryan shall and will warrant & forever defend
the rights of the said Land to the said Thomas Payne
Senior his heirs and assigns forever   In witness I
have hereunto set my hand and seal this 24th May
1822

Personally appeared before me Asa Payne and being
duly sworn saith on oath that he saw Stephen Chatham
assign the within deed for the contents of the
consideration therein mentioned and that he saw
Elijah V. Echols assign his name as a subscribing
witness with himself to said deed this 25 of October
1822.
