"18b" was added later to the page on which it appears.] Franklin County, Georgia, Deed Book C, page 18b: This Indenture made this 18th Day of July 1787 between Robert Greaves of Wilkes County & State of Georgia of the One part and and Thomas Payne of Franklin County & state aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that Robert Greaves for and in Consideration of the sum of thirty pounds Sterling to me in Hand paid by the s'd Tho. The description of the property apparently was not on the deed.] and also the Reversion & Reversions remainder and Remainders rights Interest claim & Demands whatsoever of him the s'd Robert Greaves of in & to that Tract or parcel of Land and premisses & Every part thereof To Have & to hold the s'd Tract or parcell of Land & all and Singular the s'd premisses above mentioned with the appurtenances unto the s'd Thomas Payne his heirs & assigns forever to the Only proper use & behoof of the s'd Thomas Payne his Heirs & assigns forever and the s'd Robert Greaves for him and his Heirs the tract or parcell of Land and premisses & Every part thereof against him & his Heirs & against all & every person or persons whatsoever shall unto the said Thomas Payne his Heirs and Assigns forever shall & will warrant & for ever defend In Witness whereof the s'd Robert Greaves hath hereunto sett his Hand & seal the Day & year first above written-- Sign'd Sealed & Delivered ) his in presence of us ) Robert Greaves X Wm [Walker?] ) mark John Germany Jun'r ) John Germany J. P. ) Rec'd the day & year within mentioned of & from the within named Robert Greaves the sum of thirty Pounds lawfull money of the state of Georgia being the Consideration of Money within mentioned by him paid to me Thomas Payne ---- his Rob't X Greaves John Germany J. P. mark [Either the deed included a receipt for money paid by Robert Greaves to himself, or the clerk mistakenly put "Robert Greaves" where the entry should have had "Thomas Payne" as the person paying the agreed price to the seller. The name of Thomas Payne is written in the record above the name of John Germany and with a line following it, but with no indication that it is meant to signify his signature. It seems as though the receipt has the names of the person paying and the person receiving payment reversed.] [There is no date of recording. The clerk did not note the recording dates for any entries made after 11 May 1787 on page "llb" and before 3 Dec. 1788 on page "25b".] Submitted by: Robert W. ("Bob") Meadows Copyright 2003.
