Meadows rwmeadows@charter.net September 3, 2003, 1:40 pm Written: March 15 1797 Recorded: August 12 1799 John Burks to Thomas Payne, 15 March 1797 Franklin County, Georgia, Deed Book N, right-hand page of folio 65: This Indenture made this fifteenth day of March one thousand seven hundred & ninety seven between John Burks of the State of Georgia and County of Burke of the one part, and Thomas Payne of the County of Franklin and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said John Burks for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars to him in hand paid by the [left-hand page of folio 66] said Thomas Payne the the receipt whereof the said John Burks doth hereby acknowledge hath Given Granted Bargained & Sold Aliened & Confirmed and by these presents doth give Grant Bargain & Sell Alienate and confirm unto the said Thomas Payne all that Tract or parcel of Land lying and being in said Franklin County on the Middle fork broad River containing by estimation two hundred eighty seven and a half Acres, be the same more or less and bounded as follows, to wit, adjoining Reuben Nail above and all other sides vacant when Surveyed-- Beginning at a red oak corner running thence N. 65 West 75 C. to a post oak corner thence S. 25 West 38 C to a pine corner thence S. 65 East 76 C to a chery tree corner, thence N. 25. E. 38. C. to the beginning-- and also the Reversion and Reversions, Remainder and Remainders, Rights Interests Claims and demands whatsoever of him the said John Burks of in or to that tract or parcel of Land and premisses and every part thereof To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of Land and all and Singular the said premisses above mentioned with the appurtenances unto the said Thomas Payne his heirs and assigns for ever to the only proper use and behoof of the said Thomas Payne [right-hand page of folio 66] his heirs and assigns for ever and the said John Burks for himself and his heirs the said tract or parcel of Land and premisses and every part thereof against him and his heirs and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever unto the said Thomas Payne his heirs and assigns for ever shall and will Warrant & for ever defend-- In Witness whereof I the said John Burks hath hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and date first above written-- Signed sealed and ) delivered in presence of ) John Burks (L.S.)
