Champness Payne to unnamed person, 27 Dec. 1798


[Note 1:  Probably, Champness Payne was relinquishing whatever interest he had 
in this land to his father, Thomas Payne Sr., but the document as entered by 
the clerk in the Deed Book doesn't say to whom he was relinquishing his 
interest.  This document was apparently signed one month after Thomas Payne 
Sr. obtained a warrant for the seizure and public sale of this tract of land.  
See the sheriff's deed from Hezekiah Terrell to Thomas Payne Sr., which was 
recorded this same day and entered into the Deed Book immediately before the 
entry of this document.]
[Note 2:  The first name of "Champ Payne" was usually spelled as Champness or 
Champneys.  The clerk did not place an "s" at the end of "Champney" in the 
signature block.]
[Note 3:  The clerk used the folio method of page numbering:  putting 
consecutive numbers on the left-hand pages and leaving the right-hand pages 
unnumbered.]

Georgia          )      I Champ Payne of the County & State aforesaid do 
Franklin County  )      hereby relinquish & forever quit claim all right title 
claim or interest which I have to two hundred eighty seven & a half acres of 
land lying in the County aforesaid on Toogaloe River known & called by the 
name of Eastatoe old fields.  In Testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed 
my hand & set my seal this 27th day of December 1798 --
