Here, the clerk has omitted one syllable of the name and put an "M" in the middle, rather than the "N" or "NN" that typically appears there.] [The page on which this deed is located was originally numbered as folio 32. The clerk at some point renumbered the pages, so that "31b" now appears as its page number.] Franklin County, Georgia, Deed Book C, page 31b: This Indenture made this 18th Day of March in the thirteenth year of Independence and in the Year of Our Lord Christ one Thousand seven hundred & Eighty nine Between Thomas Payne of Franklin County and State of Georgia of the One Part and Thomas White of the County and State aforesaid Witnesseth that the said Thomas Payne for and in consideration of the sum of Thirty Pounds Sterling to me in Hand Paid by the said Thomas White the receipt whereof the said Thomas ["White" is lined out] Payne Doth hereby acknowledge hath Given Granted Bargained & sold Alienated and Confirmed and by these Presents Do Give, Grant Bargain and sell alienate and confirm unto the said Tho's White all that Tract or parcel of Land lying and being in the said County on the said Paynes Creek lying above the mouth of the second Branch on the East side of the said Paynes Creek, Beginning at the Mouth of said Branch and Running up the said Creek on the East side to said Paynes back line and then along the said line [A.
