The Carnesville Herald January 1, 1942
A bus of the smoky Mountain Stages company crashed into a 12 foot ravine near 
Commerce. Eleven of the occupants were painfully injured, the driver, Buddy 
Maddox, of Maysville, suffered two broken legs. Bus officials attributed the 
accident to a broken spring.
