Franklin County Citizen September 14, 1989
The Lavonia High School Class of 1944 held its 45th class reunion on Saturday, 
Aug. 26 at the Days Inn in Lavonia.

Each member was greeted at the door by Sue Randall Cawthon. Margaret Lee Ayers 
gave each member and spouse a name tag and made his  or her picture.

Attending were 24 classmates. Nell Smith Hambrick and Geraldine Matheson Eison 
were welcomed as guests as they were former classmates. The total in attendance 
with spouses was 47.

Class president Ray Gaines presided over the event, and Lavonia mayor Herman P. 
Ayers gave the welcome with Gaines giving the response.

A memorial service honoring the memory of six classmates who are deceased was held 
following dinner. Those remembered were Betty Ann Chance Posey, Sara Chitwood 
South, Thomas Harrison, James Singleton, Edith McClain, Thomas Bradley and Dorothy 
Thomas.

The committee to make arrangements for this occasion was composed of Sue Randall 
Cawthorn, Roy Gaines and Margaret Lee Ayers.
