B. Gilbert of Royston, Chief of Staff at Cobb Memorial Hospital since early in the year--and who, according to another doctor on the staff, has been doing an excellent job--has helped many since he began practice in 1938. Around 1800 babies have been delivered by Dr. Gilbert; included have been 32 sets of twins. Dr. Gilbert says he once delivered a set of triplets, but all three died. Dr. Gilbert received his premedical education at Paine College, Augusta, with a BS degree in 1919. He received an M.D. degree in 1924 from Meharry Medial College, Nashville, Tennessee. He interned at Hale Hospital and Provident Hospital. He hwas lived in Royston since he began practice. Born in Vienna, Georgia, in 1899, Dr. Gilbert was married to the former Carrie Brookins, who died in 1957. Dr. Gilbert has two daughters--Mrs. B. B. (Louise) Wilcox, who, together with her husband, is on the faculty at Rosyton Elementary School; and Mrs. J. Benjamin (Josephine) Kimbers, who resides with her husband--a dental surgeon--in Baltimore, Maryland. Asked if he has been honored in any way of which he is especially proud, Dr. Gilbert said he had received two citations--one from President Harry Truman, in 1947, for uncompensated service during World War 2; and he was, especially, pleased when he was named by Paine College, in 1942, as the College's most outstanding alumnus of the year.
