The Carnesville Herald, 1948 March 18, 1948
The Freshmen Class of the Carnesville School met Tuesday, March 9th, to hold a 
spelling contest between the two sections, 8-A and 8-B.

On Monday, March 15th, the winners of this contest spelled the winners from 5th, 
6th and 7th grades.

The two selected were Geneva Owens from 8-B and Sarah Holland from 8-A.

Geneva Owens won the highest score and Sarah Holland won second. This means that 
Geneva Owens will spell in the County Contest to be held later this week.

This contest is sponsored by the Atlanta Journal.
