This entire section was shocked to learn of the death of Mr. J. Lawrence 
Addison, who was instantly killed when a large monument which he was hauling 
in a wagon fell on him and crushed his life out sometime after dark last 
Friday night.
Mr. Addison had gone to Toccoa for a monument for his father's grave. Due to 
the unusual size and shape of the monument, it could not be fitted in the 
wagon in a secure way. However, parties helping him with the load thought they 
had it tied so that it would not fall from the wagon.  Mr. Addison left Toccoa 
and was nearing Broad River church where his father was buried when the 
accident occurred.  It was sometime between eight and nine o'clock Friday 
night as his team wandered on after the accident and some of the people living 
in that neighborhood found the team and put them up for the night.  It is 
believed that Mr. Addison had gone into the field to turn around presumably to 
go back to find some parts of the monument that had fallen from the wagon and 
as he was coming back into the road from the field the wagon ran into a small 
ditch.  The monument, weighing about 3000 pounds, fell across his head and 
shoulders breaking his neck and causing instant death.
The body was not found until early saturday morning.  A coroners inquest was 
held and the verdict was that he came to his death by accident.  His body was 
immediately brought to his home in Carnesville Saturday morning to await 
burial Sunday.
Mr. Addison was a good farmer and was well known throughout the county, and 
was a member of the family having the largest connections in the county.  He 
possessed many good qualities and was always in a laughing mood.
His remains were laid to rest at Cross Roads Church Sunday afternoon at two 
o'clock amid one of the largest crowds that ever gathered at this place on a 
similar occasion.  Rev. E. H. Collins, pastor of the church, conducted the 
funeral services.
The deceased is survived by his wife, who before her marriage was Miss Anna 
Fain; his mother, Mrs. Joel R. Addison of Carnesville; six children, Miss Lula 
Mae Addison, who is teaching in Trough, SC; Sloan Addison, who has a position 
in Atlanta; Doyle, Estelle, Jay and Hazel, all of whom are at home.  Two 
brothers, Walter Addison and Bartow Addison of SC; two sisters, Mrs. R. T. 
Broome and Mrs. Marve Williams, both of Danielsville, also survive him, 
besides a large number of other relatives.
We join their host of friends in extending our deepest sympathy to the grief 
stricken family in their hour of bereavement.
