Epp Thomas Akin, Well Known Citizen, Dies Of Paralysis

Mr. Epp Thomas Akin, father of County School Superintendent C. B. Akin and one 
of the best known and most likeable men of the county, died at the home in Red 
Hill community Sunday, April 9th, from a stroke of paralysis. He was ill only 
a few days before death came. While he had suffered a severe attack of 
pneumonia a few months ago it was though he had regained his usual good 
health, he having been able to serve on the grand jury two weeks ago.
Mr. Akin was 72 years old and lived all his life in the Red Hill community 
where he was a active member of Allen's Methodist church. He was a devout 
Christian and never missed an opportunity to serve his church or his 
community. During his life he was ever true to principals of right and so 
lived that when the final summons came hundreds of friends from far and near 
came to pay tribute to his memory and naught but good be said of him.
He was a son of the late Mr. Clayton Skin, a pioneer citizen of the county and 
the late Mrs. Elizabeth Shannon Akin. His life was spent in the Red Hill 
Community where he engaged in farming.
Funeral services were held from Allens church on Monday afternoon with Rev. 
Geo. W. Davis and L. P. Webb officiating. Interment was in the Allens cemetery 
amid countless friends and relatives.
 His wife preceded him to the grave sometime ago and he is survived by only 
one son, County School Superintendent C. B. Akin of Carnesville, two brothers, 
W. D. and J. S. Akin, of Red Hill section and several other near relatives. 
The relatives and friends have deepest sympathy in their bereavement.
Pallbearers were nephews, J. Clayton Akin, Joe C. Akin, J. D. Akin, J. E. 
Akin, D. C. Akin, Mose S. Hayes, while honorary pallbearers were C. D. 
McEntire, T. A. Skelton, J. W. Landrum, P. W. Vandiver, J. B. McEntire, R. L. 
Oliver, H. ?. Broome, T. H. Moss, H. R. LeCroy, W. M. Cash, C. T. Miller, J. 
E. Kelley, J. W. South.
B. D. Ginn, funeral director, was in charge of arrangements.
