Mrs. Sallie Allen Dies in Anderson

Anderson, S.C., May 23--Mrs. Sallie Hayes Allen, widow of the late Warren Allen, 
died suddenly at the home of her daughter Mrs. Wilton Brown in the New Prospect 
community, yesterday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock. Mrs. Allen had been in ill health 
for the past year, but her death was attributed to a heart attack.

Mrs. Allen was a native of Franklin County, Ga., a daughter of the late Thompson 
Hayes and Sarah Rice Hayes of that section. She had been a resident of Anderson 
County for the past twenty-five years. A member of the Asbury Methodist Church, 
west of Anderson, she was active in church and Sunday School work as long as her 
health permitted.

Surviving her are two sons, B.T. Allen, Anderson, Route 3, and M.A. Allen, 
Charleston; five daughters, Mrs. F.C. Bridges, Zion community, Mrs. Wilton Brown, 
Prospect, Mrs. W.W. Chatham, Royston, Mrs. W.B. Stewart, Ware Shoals, and Mrs. 
C.M. Phillips of Zion section, twenty-nine grandchildren and ten great-
grandchildren.

She also leaves three brothers, Charlie Hayes, Carnesville, Ga., Jim Hayes, 
Athens, and Harrison Hayes, Maxeys, Ga.; seven sisters, Mrs. Lou Allen and Mrs. 
Dessie Atkinson of Greenville, Mrs. James Brewer, Toccoa, Mrs. Ellen Belcher, of 
Iva, Mrs. Midnie Langford, of Kentucky, Mrs. Dora Hayes, Maxeys Ga. Her husband 
died in 1912.

Funeral services will be held from the Rice Creek Baptist Church near Royston, 
Ga., Thursday at an hour to be announced later by the Price Funeral Home.
