George Freeman Ayers, 79, of Toccoa, died Monday, June 12, 2006, at the Toccoa 
Nursing Center.

Born on January 25, 1927, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late 
Freeman H. and Amy Thomason Ayers. He lived in Atlanta for 10 years and lived 
most of his life in Stephens County. He was retired from Coats & Clark with 22 
years of service and was a salesman for Galen Mills Monument Company for a 
number of years. Mr. Ayers was a veteran, having served in the United States 
Army, was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, and was a member of the 
Monday morning coffee club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette 
Strickland Ayers; a brother, Duane Ayers; and six sisters.

Survivors include two step-sons, Steve Strickland, Royston, and Stanley 
Strickland, McDonough; four step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; a 
sister, Octie Carnes, Toccoa; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 14, at the New Bethel Baptist 
Church with the Rev. Dr. Tommy Childress and the Rev. Tony Byrd officiating. 
Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were James Whiten, Bill Collier, Grady Brawner, Amos Hallford, 
Billy Haliford and Charlie Elrod. Honorary escort was the members of the 
Monday morning coffee club.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New Bethel Baptist Church, 1310 New 
Bethel Road, Carnesville, Ga. 30521.

Acree-Davis Funeral Home, Toccoa, was in charge of arrangements.
