G. A. BROWN, 86, one of Franklin County's leading citizens, died Tuesday, July 15, following an extended illness. Mr. Brown was born April 20, 1861. He was a direct descendant of Isham Brown, who came to Franklin County from Anderson County in 1840. In 1886, he married Miss Mary Elizabeth Wheeler who died several years ago. In 1909 and 1910, Mr. Brown served as tax collector, and later a five year term as commissioner of Roads and Revenue. He made his home in Franklin County all of his life. Surviving Mr. Brown are the following children: Mrs. Carl Mize of Toccoa; Mrs. Len Williams of Spartanburg, SC, Mrs. J. H. Beasley of Lavonia and L. A. Brown of Martin. He also leaves one brother, T. D. Brown of Blakely, GA. Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Clarkes Creek Bapt. Church of which Mr. Brown was a member. Rev. A. T. Cline conducted the services and burial was in the church cemetery.
