W.D. Cromer Dies After Short Illness

Mr. Willis D. Cromer, prominent farmer and citizen of the Sandy Cross community, 
died at the Old Cromer home Thursday of last week at three o'clock in the 
afternoon following an illness of about ten days from a heart attack. He was 47 
years of age, his entire life having been spent in this section of Franklin 
County.

Mr. Cromer was an excellent citizen, a good neighbor, devoted father and 
husband. Always interested in the better things of life and the advancement of 
his community, he had given liberally of his time toward the promotion of  any 
move for general betterment.  Up until he became ill, he had been engaged in 
getting his farmer friends to cooperate with the government in the cotton 
production plan. He was also a member of the board of trustees of Sandy Cross 
school, and took an active interest in giving to his community one of the best 
schools in the county.

Funeral services for this splendid citizens were conducted from Zidon church 
Saturday morning at 11 o'clock by Revs. T.L. Aaron and W.T. Holcomb. Interment 
was in the church cemetery. Seldom ever, in this entire community, have so many 
friends and relatives from far and near attended the funeral of a departed 
friend.  Floral offerings, beautiful and varied, paid silent tribute to this 
love.

Surviving Mr. Cromer is his wife who, before their marriage som 27 years ago, 
was Miss Hannah Bond, and the following children-- Misses Azalee, Ruth, Ethel, 
Lucy and Geraldine; Messrs. Herschel, Stewart, Tommie, Walter and Joel. He is 
also survived by the following brothers and sisters, L.F. Cromer, Colbert; 
Robert and Lee Cromer, Royston; Mrs. J.S. Holcomb and Miss Lucy Cromer, 
Kannapolis, N.C., Mrs. Etta James and Mrs. Carl Hall, Royston, and Mrs. J.S. 
James, Gainesville.

Brock & Ayers had charge of funeral arrangements.

Additional Comments:
I'm not sure if the name of the wife is correct, but this is what was printed in 
the newspaper, so more research should be done to certify.
