Franklin County Citizen, April 1948
Funeral services were held April 4 for Janice Fortson, aged 10, daughter of Mrs. 
Birtie Carithers Fortson and the late King D. Fortson, of the Velpoe community, at 
the Friendship Baptist church with the Reverends T. L. Christian and Jim Lord in 
charge of services. Burial was in the cemetery there.

The little girl died in a local hospital April 2nd, after an illness of three 
weeks.

Surviving are; her mother, eight sisters, Mrs. Mary Smith and Mrs. Edna Murphee of 

Kanapolis, N.C.; Mrs. Lawt Wofford of Atlanta; Misses Mildred, Sarah, Lindy, and 
Carolyn Fortson, and Mrs. Emma Ruth Graham, all of Danielsville, Ga; and four 
brothers; Alston Fortson of Kannalopis, N.C., Early D. Fortson, of Gadsden 
Alabama; Pvt. Bethue Fortson, in Germany; and King D. Fortson Jr., of 
Danielsville.

Cunningham and Pruitte were in charge of arrangements.
