Born in Hart County on December 27, 1922, he was the son of the late Zeddie D. “Zed” and Maude Payne Fortson. He was a retired truck driver, having worked for Superior and Argo Trucking Companies. He was a member of the Vanna United Methodist Church, was a member of the Royston Masonic Lodge, and was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Fortson was preceded in death by his wife, Ossie Moon Fortson; a brother, Johnnie Fortson; and sister, Louise Ashworth. Survivors include brothers, Charles Fortson, Elberton, and Gene Fortson, Crossville, Tenn.; and a sister, Clara F. Potts, Toccoa; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 18, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home with the Revs. James Bannister, Doug Brown and Thomas Moon officiating. Burial was in the Vanna United Methodist Church cemetery.
