DDec 13, 1956 GEORGE L. GOODE, PROMINENT LAWYER, DIES IN TOCCOA George L. Goode, 73, prominent Georgia attorney, died suddenly about 4 pm Wednesday in the Stephens County Hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment for several days. Mr. Goode was carried to the hospital 12 days ago after he suffered a heart attack. He was born Aug 13, 1883 in Carnesville, a son of the late Rev. John Fleming Goode and Palmyra Pratt Carson Goode, both of Georgia families. He was admitted to the bar June 14, 1905, and began the practice of law in Franklin County. He was judge of the city court of Carnesville in 1916 and 1917, served as a member of the Georgia State senate from the 31st District in 1929, and in the extra session in 1931. He was a member of the Georgia Public service Commission in 1933-1934, and assistant attorney general for the state of Georgia in 1935-1936. At the termination of this service, he returned to Toccoa and engaged in the private practice of law. Mr. Goode was a trustee of North Georgia College in Dahlonega, a member of Toccoa First Baptist Church, was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Elks Club. In 1911 he married Miss Annie Rampley, of Carnesville, who preceded him to the grave in 1946. Surviving this union are two sons and a daughter, Clifford Carter Goode of Atlanta, George Lauren Goode of Rome and Mrs. Florence Goode Bissell of New York City. In 1948, he married the former Miss Frances Walker, who survives him. Other survivors include a brother, J. M. Goode, of Fairburn, GA and one granddaughter. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Fred Northcutt Mortuary in Toccoa.
